San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Lancaster is gearing up for its 29th annual Hispanic Cultural Festival. The festival will be held Wednesday through Saturday on the church grounds, 425 S. Duke St. Festival hours are 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, 6-10 p.m. Thursday, 6-11 p.m. Friday and 4-11 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.
Festivities begin Wednesday night with old-fashioned carnival fun and a local talent show on the main stage. "Our festival is an opportunity to celebrate our Catholic Christian faith and share the richness of our Hispanic culture," said the Rev. Allan F. Wolfe, pastor of San Juan Bautista.
The festival is held every year as a fundraiser for the church. As in previous years, there will be a grand raffle drawing for a $10,000 cash prize or a 2010 Honda Civic, which will take place Saturday at 11 p.m.
All proceeds help support the services the church offers to families in the local community, such as the after-school program and English classes. The event also features music, games, rides, arts and crafts and a wide variety of traditional Hispanic food, including Colombian empanadas, Puerto Rican pastels and Mexican tamales and enchiladas.
